About The South Derbyshire Karate Academy

Class Structure

Classes cover all aspects of modern karate training; these follow our own comprehensive syllabus covering:

Kata – Traditional Wado Ryu; including the study of bunkai
(practical application of kata).

Kihon – Basic techniques – Traditional and Sport style.

Kumite - Sparring – Beginners to advanced level. W.K.F. and
W.U.K.O. rules apply.

Self-Defence- Realistic, simple and effective techniques taught.

Pad/Bag work – to test effectiveness of techniques.

Fitness – classes centre on improving students aerobic / anaerobic fitness and flexibility.


Club Development

S.D.K.A instructors regularly attend seminars with world class
martial artists to assist in their continued development.
We host seminars with guest instructors in the academy for
the benefit of S.D.K.A students.

Our Squad regularly competes in Local, National and International level competitions with an excellent record of success!

Access to National Squad training is available through the E.K.G.B.

Karate competition is optional for our students.

We organize additional activities for the academy. These include Rock Climbing, Go Ape, Fencing, Christmas parties and other social events.
